Round Lake and Staring Lake sit about four miles apart, and for most of the year they function as separate parks with separate crowds. In summer they operate as two halves of the same calendar. Round Lake owns the big-crowd nights. Staring Lake owns the weekly rhythm. If you have lived here long enough to remember when the Fourth of July fireworks were the whole summer program, the shift is worth naming.
The city has quietly built a season with two anchors instead of one, and a downtown-less town has started to behave like one that has a downtown. The concert calendar, the festival week, and the new restaurant openings all cluster around those two poles. Here is how the pieces fit together for someone already living in the 55344, 55346, or 55347.
Round Lake Handles the Peaks
The July 3–4 Hometown Celebration is the loudest node on the summer graph. This year Sparklefest opened Eden Prairie's two-night Hometown Celebration on Friday, July 3, with a full night at Round Lake Park that began with a military wreath-laying and ended with 200 drones forming patriotic images overhead, and the event featured 20 food trucks, a World Cup watch party and family-friendly entertainment. The July 4 program at the same park ran 4 to 11 p.m. and included a T-6 Thunder Flight Formation Team flyover, featuring 4 WWII-era T-6 Texan aircraft.
What is new is how the city moved people in and out. SouthWest Transit is providing a free shuttle service between SouthWest Station (13500 Technology Drive) and Round Lake Park. Shuttles run continuously 3:45–11:30 p.m. with pickups and drop-offs approximately every 30 minutes, and free golf-cart shuttles ran between the Community Center and Round Lake Park through the events. If you have skipped the last few years because parking felt punishing, the logistics are worth another look.
Round Lake goes quiet after the Fourth. That is where the second pole picks up.
Staring Lake Owns Thursdays, Fridays, and Sundays
The Starring at Staring series at the Staring Lake Amphitheatre is the closest thing Eden Prairie has to a standing summer routine. Starring at Staring performances most Thursday, Friday and Sunday evenings, now through August. Bring a lawn chair or blanket, and sit back and enjoy the show! The shows will run 7–8:30 p.m. at Staring Lake Park Amphitheatre. Concessions are available for purchase or bring your own picnic and refreshments. All purchases are credit/debit card only.

The series carries further into August, closing with Power of 10 on Aug 20 2026 from 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm at Staring Lake Amphitheatre, 14800 Pioneer Trail. If you have kids who fade before 7 p.m., the Tuesday morning program at the same venue is the workaround: they get their own free summer entertainment series at Staring Lake, Kidstock! Shows take place on Tuesdays at 10:30-11:15am.
One structural note residents miss: the Jazz on the Prairie Big Band uses this amphitheater for its annual festival, which 2026 marks the 36th annual event featuring 7 local jazz big bands. Staring Lake is not just a concert venue that got busy last year. It is a decades-old jazz venue that finally has neighbors on the calendar.
PeopleFest! Week Compresses the Late-July Program
The last week of July is where the two poles briefly become one program. Party on Sunday, July 26 at Central Middle School is the celebration's main event, kicking off a week of opportunities to explore some of the many cultures that make Eden Prairie a wonderfully diverse community.
The rest of the week runs across three venues. On Tuesday, July 28, Kidstock at Staring Lake features Dollipops, and the Human Rights & Diversity Commission hosts a Cultural Perspectives Panel. Wednesday, July 29 brings an Immigrants in Minnesota presentation with Dr. Michele Waslin at the Valley View Campus. Thursday, July 30 is the Salsa Del Soul Concert from 7:00-8:30 p.m. at the amphitheater, and Friday closes with the Eden Prairie Community Band, also 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Staring Lake. It is the one stretch of the calendar where four different community organizations are running programming in the same seven days. Plan accordingly.
The Food Map is Rearranging Around the Same Two Poles
For years the honest answer to "where do you eat in Eden Prairie" was Kona Grill or CRAVE across from the mall, or you drove to Edina. That is now a stale answer.
The new independent to know is The Hearth. The Hearth opened its doors only a few months ago in October 2025 in the iconic Woody's location just off Shady Oak Road north of Highway 212 and south of Crosstown 62. The address is 6399 City West Parkway. It is the evolution of a popular southwest metro area pizza food truck, Rolling Hearth Bistro, which has been serving artisan-style, wood-fired pizza for the last dozen years at events like county fairs, community celebrations, wineries, breweries, and private parties. If you remember Woody's, the room is the same bones with a wood-fired oven where the old grill used to be.
Eden Prairie Center is doing something different: replacing generic food court tenants with more specific ones. Gyu Mai Japanese BBQ and Ichiddo Ramen will open within a dual-concept space comprising 7,996 square feet, with both concepts scheduled to open in December of this year. Where's The Flour?, a gluten-free fast-casual restaurant, will lease 808 square feet within the development's food court. Additionally, Café Viola will open a coffee kiosk and occupy 252 square feet. Café Viola is the one that changes a mall-coffee run: the café will offer barista-made specialties and nitro cold brew made exclusively from beans from Lavazza, a brand that has been roasting and grinding espresso beans in Italy for over 120 years. Where's The Flour? matters because the tenant is relocating from Blaine, Minn., and offers an extensive selection of gluten-free breaded and fried comfort foods. If someone in your household has celiac disease, that is not a small addition.
The direction of trade is worth noting. Smith Coffee & Cafe, the farmhouse cafe near Riley-Purgatory-Bluff Creek, is expanding out of town. Owner Ann Schuster announced the cafe's second location, telling the Minnesota Star Tribune about her plans for the former D'Amico & Sons space. The cafe will be open daily from 7 a.m. until 4 p.m. and pizza nights may also be added down the road. A grand opening is anticipated sometime this fall. An Eden Prairie operator is exporting a concept to 50th & France, not the other way around. That is not the way the traffic used to run.
What a Resident Actually Does With This
Three practical shifts if you have lived here a while:
The Round Lake shuttle from SouthWest Station is a legitimate answer to the July 3–4 parking problem. Park at the transit station on Technology Drive and take the free bus. Same-day, same-crowd, no Eagle Way traffic.
Thursday, Friday, and Sunday nights are now the reliable free-entertainment slots at Staring Lake through August 21, and the shows run only 90 minutes. That is a workable weeknight for a family with a bedtime. The concessions are card-only, so bring the card or bring a picnic.
The old rule "for a real restaurant, leave Eden Prairie" has weakened. The Hearth at the Woody's building is the near-term test. Café Viola, Where's The Flour?, and the December opening of Gyu Mai and Ichiddo Ramen are the medium-term test. The 50th & France expansion of Smith Coffee is the sign the city's own operators think the local base can support more.
If the last twelve months in Eden Prairie have felt more programmed than the last five combined, that is because they are. Two lakes, one festival week, and a food scene finally growing sideways instead of just up.
